Akshay Kumar is an Indian actor who was born on September 9th, 1967, in Amritsar, Punjab. His original name was Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia. During the early stages of his career, he started using the name Akshay Kumar. He is the son of a government worker in a country in which acting often runs in the family. He has trained extensively in dance and martial arts. He is one of Bollywood’s leading performers and is very well commended known for his versatility as an actor. A known face in the Bollywood film industry, he has acted in a steady stream of thrillers and fast-paced dramas. Before starting his film career, he worked at a Bangkok food stall, tried his hand at modeling, and appeared in several films. Later, he was offered a starring role in ‘Deedar’ in 1992 by director Pramod Chakravarthy.
His first movie role was as a martial arts instructor in the movie ‘Aaj’ (1987). In 1992, he acted in the movie ‘Khiladi’, which brought him considerable attention. His athleticism and love for action roles are well displayed in his biggest films such as ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’ (1994). In this movie, Kumar played a police inspector protecting a star witness. He again portrayed a conflicted policeman in the film ‘Mohra’, one of the most popular Indian films of 1994. Despite his success in those high-intensity roles, his charming and good looks had also allowed him to being casted in romantic comedies such as ‘Yeh Dillagi’ (1994). Then later, ‘Dhadkan’ (2000), which was a story in which his character must win over his reluctant bride. Further, the movie ‘Ajnabee’ which came in 2001 and won him his first Filmfare Award for best villain.
Furthermore, with ‘Hera Pheri’ in 2001 , Akshay found himself doing a new kind of a role as a comedic lead. This movie became popular enough to lead to a sequel in 2006. After achieving this feat, he continued to appear in comedies such as ‘Garam Masala’ that won him a second Filmfare Award for best actor in a comedic role. His later films include ‘Heyy Babyy’, ‘Singh Is Kinng’, ‘OMG: Oh My God!’, ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’, ‘Good Newwz’, ‘Housefull’ series, ‘Laxmii’ etc.
