Rohit Sharma, full name Rohit Gurunath Sharma, was born on 30th April, 1987. He is an Indian international cricketer who is currently the captain of the India national cricket team across all formats. A right-handed batsman, he is considered to be one of the best batsmen of his generation and one of the greatest opening batsman of all time. Sharma is also very well known for his timings, six-hitting abilities, and leadership skills. He currently holds several batting records which famously include ‘Most sixes in international cricket’, Most double centuries in ODI cricket’, ‘Most centuries at Cricket World Cups’ and joint most hundreds in Twenty20 Internationals. Rohit Sharma is the first player to score 5 T20I centuries.
As for the Indian Premier League (IPL), he plays for Mumbai Indians team, which is owned by the Ambanis, and particularly for Mumbai in domestic cricket. Rohit Sharma has had a fantastic IPL career. Mumbai Indians took him and he became the captain of the team.
Rohit initially began his career as a bowler, but his batting ability progressively evolved after scoring a century in a school tournament. Sharma then further went on to produce a strong century against Pakistan’s team. Rohit’s finest ODI performance came against Pakistan in Australia, and it was from then he began to make a name for himself in international cricket. Later in 2009, he achieved a triple century in the Ranji Trophy. After that, he made his debut in the Cricket World Cup in 2015 and played eight matches for India for the tournament in Australia.
Sharma in the 2019 Cricket World Cup series, in a match against Sri Lanka, scored five centuries, becoming the first batsman to achieve this feat. He made 648 runs in the tournament, winning the ICC’s Golden Bat Award.
Further, in the year 2019, he scored his 2,000th run, in the third Test against South Africa, where he also hit his first double century. Replacing Cheteshwar Pujara, Sharma became vice-captain of India’s Test team in 2020 during the team’s tour of Australia. As for now, he is a popular captain and has garnered much media attention.
